I'm sure you have had many replies but below is from the on-line help.
I have used the $today many times and it works quite well.  Also, 
depending on the version, Suprtool needs to be told what format your date
is in.  It is done with the ITEM command.


Today's Date
 
  To select records based on today's date, use the following:
 
       >if field=$today         {today's date}
       >if field=$today(-1)     {yesterday's date}
       >if field=$today(+1)     {tomorrow's date}
 
  Use the Item command to qualify the field as a date.   The  $today  function
  accepts  one  optional  argument which is the number of days before or after
  today.  The maximum number of days in either direction is 9999.
