Well, you know I'm going to have the obligatory mention of XML.  All of the
major database vendors are advertising support for XML recordsets.
Microsoft's ADO 2.5 allows one to save recordsets as XML (albeit with the
older XDATA almost-standard).  SQL Server also supports XML recordsets.
Oracle's XML toolkit has an interesting Java offering called XSQL.  One
passes a query to a webserver and the XSQL servlet returns JDBC recordsets.
And Sun has noted in the JDBC 2.0 documentation an interface for
webrecordsets - once again, rowsets represented in XML.
