As far as I recall my experiments with PGP on MPE/iX, the files are also
compressed by the encryption software (maybe to remove redundancy info),
but I am no encryption expert, so I might be wrong...

PS... From a second look at your precise subject... I don't know if it
would be helpful to encrypt HP3000-L (list traffic :-) but sometimes
the compression might be handy to reduce the volume ;-)
