Depends... how fast can you talk?

T1s are just digital pipes between your equipment and the phone
company's. They can carry data, digitized voice, or a combination of the
two. Exactly what voice services are offered over T1s depends on your
local phone company.

When you hear about a "T1 connection to the Internet", that means that
the entire non-signaling bandwidth of the line -- 1.544Mbps -- is used to
carry data between your router and an ISP or Internet backbone router
(rarely). But there are other ways of splitting the bandwidth on a T1: it
can carry 23 voice channels, or those 23 channels can be split between
voice and data. When used for a mix of voice and data, the data channels
can carry ISDN (for multiple switched digital connections, inbound or
outbound) or frame relay.

If you want to use T1s for voice, you need the right equipment. You can
get something called a "channel block", which converts one or more of the
digital channels back to ordinary analog phone lines -- plain old
telephone service (POTS). These can then connect with your existing
equipment. Otherwise, you can get newer phone equipment that can
interface directly with the T1. Lots of options. Which ones are
available, and which are cost-effective, depends on who supplies the T1
and what they can do with it.
