Having never seen a Genicom 4490XT printer, I figure I must be about as much
of an expert as anyone :-).
Having said that, the one thing that I would emphasize is that the printer
port on the DTC must be configured as a Term Type 18 printer (no special HP
status checking). Without this termtype, no foreign (non-HP) printer is
likely to work.
The second note is that I've given up which wire should be sent to Pin 2
(data send) and which to Pin 3 (data receive). I just try one way or the
other by merely guessing nowadays -- and I find that I right at least as
often as I'm wrong :-).
As soon as you get these two attributes correct, the printer should at least
start responding, even if its response is garbage. Nonetheless, once you're
there, it's only a matter of getting the baud rate right.
