Well, Quiz vs VB6 App..

I use Access/VBA for development, so far I use Power House tools too.

I have couple of a cosmetic change on old Quiz report..

1. The Quiz report , omit a printing format portion, make some change on QUIZ
to make a Subfiles instead of a report

2. Link the Subfiles in HP3K, use MS Access with ODBC/32 and Schema Editor

3. Now, a user right click on a data sheet form field(base on HP3K Files), make a some sort or filter from MS Access form(DS), or Excel Wizard (development base on old Information Access) to copy a "what if" selection on a HP3K files to an Excel work sheet.

HP3k/IMAGE/Quiz is fast, reliable and fast development

VB or VBA is pretty(GUI), user friendly and compatibility

I use Access VBA, fast turnaround with development package to deploy.

One of saving tip so far I found is, run Access Query wizards create a Query,
turn around to SQL statement and Cut and Paste to VB/VBA SQL statement,
It save most my time.

C "HP3K" to "eHP3K" in all

We use Powerhouse, so as a test I wrote a VB6 app to import data to an
access database, and I wrote the same process in Powerhouse. I had a 15 to
one reduction in code (Quiz vs. VB6). The VB6 app was pretty lean, and did
well on the update. It took 5 hours to write the VB6, and code 20 minutes
to write the Quiz code (using indexed sub files).

What is the saying, Do the Math...

I wonder, has anyone else had similar results or are my VB skills too weak?

Both process take 10 to 15 minutes to process about 180,000 records, but one
is very easy to maintain.
The access file in on a PII, 233; the quiz is on an HP300 987/200...

Unless, of course, you're going in the wrong direction. Then turning around
and
going back is the most sensible thing to do.

(I'm not saying this is the case with the 3000. But there are other areas
in
which HP needs to get back to its roots.)

Well written! It is always fun to look at the rear-view mirror, of course.
But that will not get you anywhere. It is vital to turn the headlights on
(if necessary) and to look AHEAD.
