No kidding it's a lot faster. I have a job that creates an SLT tape with some extra programs (3rd party backup utility being the largest), rewinds the tape, remounts it, and runs CHECKSLT on the tape. IIRC it took well over 1 hour on the old drive, and it only took 15 minutes on my new one. (This is by no means a scientific experiment...YMMV.)
