Howard,

I got bit on this not even one month ago.  The problem is the
firmware on the fast-wide scsi you are using for the array.  I will
have to do some checking to get you version numbers, and you
will have to have your hardware support people access the
card using SYSDIAG\FWSCSIPB   (section 3) to get the
firmware of the card you have now to verify them, but if you
replace the card with a more current firmware version you
will be able to install and boot from that device.

I won't be able to get the numbers for you until tomorrow, but
I'll email you with them once I know.  This one had us all
scratching our heads.  The clue that got us on the right path
was someone remembering how the firmware of the scsi
cards on the X5 series machines had to be one of two (or
what it three) specific versions in order for disc drives to be
external to the CPU chassis.

There is hope for the use of that array,
