You will need to have two things in place:

1. The SMBD program must have PM capability as well
as the group in which it is stored. Normally,
this is 'SMBD.SAMBA.SYS' if the standard installation
    procedures were used.
2. The effective userid (i.e. the MPE user which is utilized
when you connect to a particular Samba share) must have
TR (Traverse Directory) authority for that directory.

If #1 is satisfied, then the easy way to check to see if
#2 is the culprit is to log onto the e3000 as your guest
user and go into the shell. Try to 'cd' to the directory
and see if you can (more than likely you will not be able to).
If you can safely open up the security on that directory,
then you can use 'chmod' to alter the permissions accordingly.
Specifying 'execute' access on a directory implies the
'Traverse Directory' ACD for that particular access group.
For example, to allow access to files stored under "/tmp/test"
to everyone, you can specify "chmod o+x /tmp/test". Keep in
mind that if you do not have TD authority on /tmp, you can't
even get to /tmp/test (you need the authority at the highest
point in the HFS in order to start descending that branch
of the tree).
Also, just because you can get into the directory doesn't
mean that you can access the files stored there. Your guest
user will need to have the appropriate file permissions set
before you will be able to read or write those files. Once
you can access the files via the Posix shell while logged on
as the user in question, Samba should also work correctly.
