This would happen to me on my 918 when a connection via telnet was started
but then the window/connection was closed before a user logged onto the
system. I have switched to NS/VT and the messages do not appear.

Subject: Re: strange problem with telnet
I get the same msg the console here. I posted the question
to the HP3000-l on Jan 8, 00, titled: STARTLOGON error on
console.
It seems to be a performance problem, I think, but not sure. I
put INETD in the CS Q, but that didn't help. I am currently
waiting to get more RAM.
Let me know if you uncover anything on this particular
problem.

sorry to digress from the cut&paste discussion.
I just got my HP up on my local network at home and telnet is exhibiting
some odd behavior at times. I'll get the console message
"CAN'T FOPEN $STDLIST IN 'STARTLOGON' ON LDEV #8. (js 131)"
"CAN'T CLEANUP SOCKET ON LDEV #8. (js 89)"
Any ideas?
thanks,
shawn
