This sounds veriy similar to what I am experiancing here at J. Baker. We
just added 2 additional NIC's for WebOrder, a Smith Gardner package, and
since the cards have been installed, 1 week now. I have noticed a cylic
delay about every 5 seconds or so, while logging in, viewing spool files
etc. This is a 60 user system. I was asked by our PCLAN group to set up
the cards as full duplex instead of half, their reason - faster. I would be
very interested in responses about this. We are also using a package from
LUND that tracks system performance, SOSmon. The system is a 3000 928-020,
with a sixty user licence.
Thanks in advance

Subject: Re: Telnet problem
Hi Curt,
We had a similar problem with our HP3000 969 with a 100Mbs interface card.
We tracked the problem to be in the use of a full duplex connection to our
network switch.
We changed the network switch port configuration to half-duplex and the
problem disappeared.
This was noticed with our other 10Mbs NIC.

Hello all,
I have a telnet question. I have it installed and it is running on a HP917
(running MPE 6.0 with 32mb ram). But when I log into it, it has a tendency
of delaying the echo back to the screen of the characters that you type.
For example, if I type in "hello manager.sys", it may display "hello ma",
then pause for a second or 2, then display "nag", then pause, then finish
and log me in and display the welcome message. Then if I try to run a
program, it will also do the same thing. But when running a program with a
VPLUS screen, it seems OK.
What can cause this delay in the echo back of the characters? Is it the
fact that a 917 with 32 mb just can not do telnet very well? Is there a
problem with telnet on MPE 6.0? Is the network that the 917 is connected to
just to busy and delaying the echo back? A LAN card problem on the HP917?
Hopefully not a combination of all (plus the phase of the moon with the
house of usher rising, etc.)?
Any comments would be appreciated.
TIA
