Most any BSD-based socket program can run under inetd, but you typically
want this for persistent and/or low-volume applications.
The 5.5 and earlier FTP won't do inetd because it is NetIPC based.

Syslog can be invoked relatively frequently (very frequently at times)
and having it as a standalone daemon avoids the overhead incurred by
creating a new instance for each invocation under inetd.
