Check Holger's excellent performance report for STORE/TurboSTORE with
DDS1/DDS2/DDS3/DLT4000/DLT5000/DLT7000 vs. [no]MAXTAPEBUF vs. [no]INTER, etc.

Hint: INTER saves very little (at least, on single tape drive STOREs), so I
      recommend against using it.
