Kim Wheetley, Director of the Southeast Center for Education in the
Arts, was recently awarded $6,000.00 from the Tennessee Arts
Commission to hold a workshop "Teaching and Learning Through the
Arts: Arts Integration during the summer of 2003.

The Southeast Center for Education in the Arts, located at UTC, strives to
bring art, dance, music and theater into the classroom as important
elements in the curriculum.  This workshop will enable teams of educators
to integrate the arts into their own classroom practices.  The participants
are primarily educators in elementary and secondary schools, and they come
from Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Louisiana.  A variety of dynamic
discussions and demonstrations will provide these participants with new
strategies for implementing comprehensive arts education programs in their
schools.  This workshop is an important step toward the goal of the
Southeast Center for Education in the Arts to extend arts into the
classroom and enrich the education of students.
