An interdisciplinary team of faculty at UTC has received a grant of $150,000
from the National Science Foundation. Dr. Jerry Dauer and Dr. Linda
Collins led a team of faculty, including John Lynch, Jonathan Mies, and
Ling-Jun Wang, in securing funds to implement a laboratory course in the
natural sciences that is designed and taught specifically for non-science
majors.
The goal of this project is to improve the scientific literacy of
non-science majors, particularly future teachers. The course will be based
on the theme of light and designed to enrich non-science majors'
understanding of science, scientific issues, and their complexity. The
course will be available to students as part of UTC's new general education
program.
We congratulate this team of faculty for working together and securing
these funds for UTC students. Please join us in commending them for their
important work.
