Dear Colleagues,

Honors Day is scheduled this year for Tuesday, April 13 at 4:30 PM in the
Hayes Auditorium. Those of you responsible for gathering and reporting data
about awards need to note some important changes in preparations.

Traditionally, the UHON Program -- which has the task of amassing the data
for the Honors Day booklet -- sends out the infamous blue award-report forms
to all the department heads. In a couple instances last year this led to
confusion as some deans wanted to alter which departments were to handle
which awards. So this year we thought it best to send the blue forms
directly to the deans. We will leave it to the deans to distribute or
complete the forms as they think best. We will also leave it to the deans to
collect the forms for their colleges and to return them to the UHON Office
for publication.

The blue forms will be distributed to the deans by the end of this week
(Jan. 29). The deans will presumably distribute the forms to their heads
during the first week of February. If you are a faculty member with award
responsibilities, and you have not received any blue form by, say, February
10th, then please ask your head or dean about it. It will then be the deans'
responsibility to gather the forms, verify their contents, and have them to
the UHON office no later than March 12. I suspect the deans will want to
collect the forms from their department heads no later than March 8 or so.

The UHON Program will prepare a draft of the Honors Day booklet over Spring
Break. Proofs will be sent to the deans for review in late March.

As was the case last year, it will be up to the heads and deans to insure
that award recipients are notified of their awards. It will also be their
responsibility to determine whether or not the recipients of awards
involving stage presentations will actually appear on April 13th to receive
their awards.

Here then is the calendar of Honors Day preparations:

Jan 29: deans receive the blue award report forms
Feb 1-10: forms distributed to heads and other faculty as appropriate
March 1-8: forms returned to the deans for review
March 10: forms due to the UHON Office
March 12: absolute no-kidding-around deadline for receipt of award
information
March 15-19: draft of the Honors Day booklet prepared
March 23: deans receive proofs of the booklet to review
March 31: all data finalized.
April 1: booklet goes to print
April 13: Honors Day

On behalf of the staff of the UHON Program, I thank you all for your
cooperation. Please let me know if you have any questions.
