All full-time and adjunct faculty:

Today you should receive in campus mail a letter from the Academic
Standards Committee detailing the committee's work on grade
inflation.  The committee is asking faculty to discuss this issue in
their respective departments with special focus on the questions at
the bottom of page one and top of page two.    Although your
individual letter does not contain data for your department, your
department head has received a letter containing data for your
department, your school or college, and the University for the
percentage of A's given during the Fall 1990 semester and during the
Fall 2000 semester.

The Academic Standards Committee appreciates your consideration of
this issue and welcomes your response.
