Yikes...a 13-page "user guide" to tell me how to get the two "legit" messages out of the spam file???? How typically academic. Guess I'll probably just have to lose them, 'cause this "part-timer" (oh...right...the academic word is "adjunct") doesn't have time for this, with the other THREE jobs she holds! ;-)

Subject: [UTCINFO] Update on new Spam Firewall

The new UTC M+ Guardian Message Firewall continues to work well blocking

spam since it has started processing mail as of yesterday, the Guardian

has scanned approximately 187,147 messages, and of this total it has

allowed approximately 16,000 e-mails through as valid. This shows that

approximately 91% of all mail coming into our campus is considered spam.
The new

system is much more proactive in dealing with spam as it arrives at UTC
and actually 

gets counted and are expecting the total number of spam counted to
decrease.

 

For the next few days mail processed through this new solution will be
tagged with the 

following message: "--- Scanned by M+ Guardian Messaging Firewall ---" 

This is done in order to assist in trouble shooting and to assure you
that your messages 

have been scanned for viruses, harmful attachments, and of course spam.
This will only be 

on messages received from outside the UTC email systems. After the
system is in 

operation for a few days this tag will be removed. 

 

On late delivery of email: This is a reminder that some mail is still

being processed from the old solution. The old solution is no longer

accepting new email from off campus, therefore allowing it to process

its current queue. We expect that all mail in the current queue will be

delivered by late evening today. Please understand as this queue is

cleared, you may see messages as old as Sunday. New mail being sent to

campus currently will arrive promptly to your inbox thanks to the new

Guardian system.

 

As with all new systems this one is expected to have growing pains and

upgrades, please bear with us as we continue to do all we can to

minimize the impact of spam on UTC.
