I wish to remind you about the special called Faculty Meeting on September
27th at 3:15 P.M. in Grote 129. There will be refreshments served in the
lobby before this important meeting. If you do not have a class conflict,
please make every effort to attend.

This will be the first chance for our new Chancellor, Roger Brown, to
address the entire faculty. He did a splendid job last week presenting UTC
to the Annual Meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, and in setting personal
and institutional goals for our future (the text is available on our
website, and it is documented with interesting facts you might not know
about education in Chattanooga and the broader competitive world).

If you did not have a chance to meet Chancellor Brown during the interview
process last Spring, this is an opportunity to find out why he was the
obvious choice to lead this campus in new directions while preserving the
best of the past. He has experience, and vision and energy to make UTC an
institution that truly educates and leads Chattanooga as we try to match
resources with programs. We face many challenges, both external and
self-imposed, but I think we can overcome them with new leadership. Please
join me in welcoming Chancellor Brown to UTC tomorrow and learning more
about his hopes for our future as an institution of learning.

In addition, Provost Friedl will also be there to outline his plans and
recent achievements; I know both will be willing to answer questions as we
prepare for a visit from UT President Petersen October 3-4.

Richard Rice
Senate President
