Blue-Gold Softball Game, Picnic Cap Fall Season

Chattanooga softball fans can catch a glimpse of what the 2003 softball
season has to offer when the Lady Mocs play their annual Blue-Gold
scrimmage game Saturday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m. at Frost Stadium. The game
precedes a championship ring presentation ceremony and a free picnic at the
stadium.

"Our fans have been so good to us and this is a chance for us to give a
little something back to them," said UTC head coach Frank Reed, who is
entering his second season at the helm. "The players have worked really
hard this fall, so this will be fun for them, too."

Coach Reed has equally divided the squad and assistant coaches Donald
Pickett and Dana Reed will handle the respective coaching duties for
Saturday's contest.

"Our numbers are up to 22 and that has allowed us to get in two to three
scrimmages per week," Coach Reed said. "The Blue-Gold game will cap off a
fall where we got to play almost 20 scrimmage games. It sets the tone for
starting out on what promises to be a great spring for Chattanooga softball.

"The team has made a real effort to focus on the weight room this fall and
we're starting to see it pay off in the latter stages of the fall season.
The freshmen have come a long way, farther than we ever expected. The fall
season seemed to go so quick, and it went exceptionally smooth."

Immediately following the game, the team, coaches and support personnel
will receive their championship rings from the 2002 Southern Conference
Championship. University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Chancellor Dr. Bill
Stacy, Director of Athletes Steve Sloan and long-time supporters Joe &
Barbara Waters are expected make the presentations.

A free picnic for all fans will be held at the stadium following the ring
ceremony.
