Dr. Barbara Ray, UC Foundation Professor, has received two grants
totaling $12,908 from the Tennessee Department of Education (TNDOED)
to continue support of her special education institutes.  These
institutes are held as a summer series at UTC with additional courses
being offered in the fall and spring semesters for students who require
extra courses for licensure or endorsement.

Of the $125,908 total funding, one grant of $35,469 supports an
Early Childhood Institute, which provides courses for 12 early childhood
special education teachers in southeast Tennessee seeking licensure.
The program educates teachers regarding current "best practices" with
instruction from specialist and practicing teachers.

The second grant of $90,439 sponsors a Special Education Teacher
Institute that provides coursework for 40 current teachers in
eastern Tennessee and enables these teachers to work toward licensure
with an  endorsement in special education. This particular institute
also provides principals and other related school professionals.
