Dear UTC Colleagues:

As Chair of the Search Committee for the Dean for the College of

status of the search process. The Search Committee was appointed by the
Provost on October 4, 2002. In addition to myself, the members of the
Search Committee include:

Lewis Card Andy Novobilski
Ahmed Eltom Joseph Owino
Karl Fletcher Stephanie Smullen
Ronald Goulet Jack Thompson
Jim Henry Cecelia Wigal
Mike Jones Kathy Winters

The advertisement will appear in the November 15 and 22 issues of The
Chronicle of Higher Education and will serve as a guiding document in
soliciting nominations and applications. We plan to contact by mail the
institutions listed as predominately black colleges or universities, as
well as targeted professional and other organizations in the field. This
position description will also appear in the November 21 issue of Black
Issues in Higher Education. You can view a copy of the advertisement at
http://www.utc.edu/%7Eacademic/FacultyOpenings/.

On behalf of the search committee, I invite you to participate in this
search by nominating any individual whom you believe has the qualifications
and abilities required for the position. The Search Committee is
especially interested in receiving nominations of minority and women
candidates. Your nominations will enhance the efforts the Search Committee
has initiated.

Review of completed applications will begin on November 25 and will
continue until the position is filled. The Search Committee would like to
have your nominations as soon as possible so that we can contact the
nominees and allow them adequate time for full preparation of application
materials. Please direct your nominations or suggestions to me through the
Office of the Provost.

Thank you for participating in this search process. With your help, we
will have a distinguished group of candidates from whom to select the next
Dean for the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Sincerely,

Deborah Arfken
Chair, Search Committee
