UTC ROUNDTABLE ON THE ATTACK ON AMERICA

Thursday, September 20th

3:00 P.M.

Chattanooga Room, UTC University Center

To give both historical and cultural context to the recent tragic events in
this country, the History Department has organized a round-table
discussion.  Each participant has volunteered a five-minute perspective;
then we will open the floor for audience questions and comments. We offer
this program as a service to the university community as we try to
understand our situation.

Participants:

Mr. Charles "Chuck" Keegan: Currently a UTC student studying Irish
literature, Mr. Keegan is a retired businessman who was captured by the
invasion forces of Saddam Hussein during the Gulf War.

Professor Yigal Levin: Currently a visiting Professor, Prof. Levin is an
Israeli with a degree in Land of Israel Studies.

Officer Carol Rhan: Currently UTC Deputy Chief of Police, Officer Rhan's
career in the Air Force included seven years in Turkey, including
counterintelligence assignments.

Professor Richard Rice: A Japan specialist, Prof. Rice has taught a course
on Pearl Harbor, and he spent three weeks in Berber tribal areas of Morocco
last year.

Professor Mike Russell: Prof. Russell has taught American History for over
30 years at UTC, including courses on the Civil War and the Early National
Period.

Professor Jim Ward: Professor Ward is also a specialist in American History
who has also taught the History of Technology.

None of us claim special expertise on the present crisis, but together we
can perhaps provide a forum for understanding the past and facing the future.
