Faculty Development Grants, Round II, must be submitted before 5 p.m. on
January 15, 2002, to Verbie Prevost, English Department 2703.

The committee has not yet revised the Faculty Development Grant form. Thus,
please use the old form from the Faculty Handbook.  (This form is currently
not available online, but I hope it will be shortly.)  The signature of the
department head is required.  The signature of the dean is optional (except
for department heads who are applying).  In the last round, some proposals
included the dean's signature, primarily when the college was providing
part of the funding.

Read the guidelines in the Faculty Handbook (section 7.2.1 for individual
grants and section 7.2.2 for group grants) carefully as the committee will
adhere to those in evaluating applications.  In addition, please do not
leave it to the committee to try to determine how the activity will
actually contribute to your development as a faculty member.  Instead, be
sure your application includes convincing evidence of that.

Since funds are limited, smaller proposals or proposals that seek partial
funding are more likely to be successful.
