So many of you have asked about Arlie that I decided to go ahead and send
out a campus wide email with the latest information I got from his daughter
this morning. For those of you who do not know, Arlie was in India with a
group from his church when he came down with a lung infection and got
critically ill. He was first taken to a small clinic and then rushed to a
teaching hospital in Hyderabad. Doctors performed a tracheotomy and gave
him heavy medication that kept him in a coma for several days. They have
finally identified the bacteria and have him on appropriate antibiotics.
The doctors there conferred regularly with Arlie's doctor here. He is now
awake, stable, and able to move his limbs. His son Mark flew there earlier
this week, and they hope to be able to bring him home in a few days. I
will provide updates when I get them.
