The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Celebrates National
Student-Athlete Day

Chattanooga, Tenn -- Hundreds of events around the nation will mark April 6,
1999, as the 12th Annual National Student-Athlete Day, including activities
sponsored by the UT-Chattanooga athletic department.

UTC student-athletes will celebrate the day with an evening social on campus.
The gathering will serve as a time of recognition for academic success,
service to the community and as a springboard for a month full of activities.
Two highlights of the month's activities include taking part in the Hamilton
County Department of Education's "Student Trait Program," and UTC's annual
vounteer awareness day on Saturday, April 17.

UTC will also recognize two student-athletes from each athletic team between
games of the the UTC-Tennessee softball doubleheader on Wednesday, April 7.
The Lady Mocs - Lady Vols matchup begins at 6 pm at Frost Stadium.

National Student-Athlete Day honors student-athletes and the network of
parents, coaches, teachers and school systems who make it possible for young
people to strike balance between academic and athletics acheivement. The day,
established by Northeastern University's Center for the Study of Sport in
Society, is co-sponsored by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports
and the NCAA.

"This is a great opportunity to honor student-athletes as well as an
opportunity to show what positive role models student-athletes can be," said
Oval Jaynes, UTC Director of Athletics. "The future of our student-athletes
depends on their dedication in the classroom, in the community and on the
playing field."

Part two of this e-mail follows recognizing UTC student-athlete successes in
the past year.
