Drs. Linda Smith and Diane Riddle of UTC's Teacher Preparation Academy
have been awarded a $23,405 Goals 2000 grant from the Tennessee Department
of Education to train teachers, administrators, parents, UTC faculty and UTC
pre-service students at Hamilton County's Normal Park School in the "How
To Read With Your Children" program.

Trained personnel will work together to offer training to all
parents in seven "Partners In Reading" nights and
provide take home materials for parents to use with their children.

Congratulations to Dr. Smith and Dr. Riddle on their award and involvement
in this
important program, which will have a significant impact on elementary
school children and families in the area.
