UTC Volunteer Day April 17
UTC staff and faculty are invited to join students to support more than two
dozen area agencies in the third annual UTC community volunteer day,
Saturday, April 17, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Agencies participating in "Unity in the Community" include the
American Diabetes Association, Chattanooga Area Food Bank, Children's
Advocacy Center, Chattanooga Audubon Society,Chattanooga CARES, Community
Kitchen,Chattanooga Theatre Centre, Children's Home-Chambliss Center,
FCS-MAPS, Friends of the Festival, the Green Team, Heritage Manor, Life
Care Center of East Ridge, Little Miss Mag Daycare, New Child Development,
Orange Grove Center, Rondald McDonald House, Senior Neighbors of Chatt.,
Stratford House Nursing Home, Tennessee River Gorge Trust, United Methodist
Neighborhood Centers, Inc.,The Vital Group, Volunteer Community School,
Bridge Refugee Services, Room in the Inn, Signal Mtn. Playhouse, Green
Team, Girl Scouts, and the American Heart Association.
"The volunteer activity and amount of time volunteers are needed
depends on the need of the agency," said Tom Losh, coordinator of volunteer
services. "Last year we did everything from gardening and painting, to
cleaning up and helping with events."
According to Pat Eaker of the Chattanooga Volunteer Center, 269 UTC
students/faculty/staff pitched in last year for the "Unity in the Community
event" for a total value of $18,544.86 in volunteer work. "In addition, 58
more individuals from UTC volunteered at agencies throughout the year for
an estimated value of $138,615.36. That comes to a total value of
$157,160.22 in services that would not have been done without the help of
UTC," said Eaker.
Clearly, our students and others at UTC are serious about helping
others in the community. For information on how you can be a part of this
exciting day, call ext. 4280.
