Late Tuesday night, a former UTC student, Christopher Todd Hobgood (Chris
to his friends), was killed in Knoxville.  Chris earned a Bachelor of
Science degree from UTC  in 1992 in Environmental Science and left to take
a job with the State of Tennessee in Knoxville shortly afterward.  He had
been an exceptional student.

        Chris was the son of Bob Hobgood and stepson of Kay Hobgood, who currently
works for UTC's Theatre and Speech Department.  Kay has been employed here
almost two decades and so is known to many on campus; I'm sure you will all
join me in expressing to her our deepest sympathy.

        Funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized.
