A former student of mine, Mr. William L. Roes, asked me to send this
announcement. Please inform your students which might be interested in
intern's position at TVA. To my understanding the position is full time,
co-op job starting in January of 2002 and available for Spring or Spring
and Summer semesters. Please forward all the questions to Mr. Roes. Thank you.

Job Description

Intern

Metallurgical Laboratory


Minimum requirements

Be enrolled in a four-year U.S. Department of Education accredited college
or university.
Be a full-time student as defined by the attending college or university.
Have completed at least the freshman year in college.
Be at least 18 years of age.
Have at least a 2.75 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.*
Have an identified course of study in a discipline that is a critical need
for TVA (e.g., engineering, computer science, marketing, business
administration, natural sciences, etc.)



Duties

Prepares samples for metallographic examination:  this involves sectioning,
mounting, grinding, polishing, etching.
Prepares samples for hardness testing.
Performs mechanical testing such as; Rockwell hardness, superficial
hardness, Brinell hardness, microhardness, tensile testing, Charpy impact
testing.
Prepares samples for chemical analysis by sectioning, grinding, or drilling.
Performs chemical analysis by means of x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and
infrared absorption.
Documents appearance of metallurgical samples with digital imaging.


Work is performed under the supervision of the metallurgical  engineering
staff.
