Faculty and Staff,

Come join us today in front of the University Center at noon to participate
in our first 2000 step noon walk as we kick off our UTC On The Move
program. There will be guided walks on four different routes with four
different intensity levels that will take between 13 minutes and 28 minutes
to complete: Yellow (beginning walker), Blue (intermediate level), Green
(experienced walker) and Red (race/competitive level). Choose the level of
intensity that best fits your current walking pace preference and join in
the fun. Feel free to remain in the group you begin with or move to a
faster pace group if you feel you are ready as the two-week program
progresses.

The goal of this two-week walking program is to help participants increase
their average daily walking baseline by 2,000 steps per day.

By the way....here are some interesting facts from the America On The Move
Harris Survey (2003).
    * Did you know that the average American is gaining one to three pounds
a year?
    * Did you know that 7 in 10 Americans 13 years and older (70%) are
currently trying to lose weight?
    * Did you know that 8 out of 10 Americans and older (81%) would like to
become more active?
    * Did you know that on average, Americans 13 years and older spend 7.7
hours a day sitting?
If any of these statistics apply to you--like they do to me--committing to
participate in our 2,000 step noon walk program may be a positive first
step toward doing something positive to address the problem.

Hope to see you at the UC at noon as we work together to help get UTC On
The Move with our 2,000 step noon walking program.
