Welcome Week Event Descriptions:

Friday, Aug. 20
ACE presents Jon Saint-Germains MINDBENDERS! mind reader entertainment
event in the UC Auditorium.  This is a fast-paced, funny, amazing event
focusing on the abilities of the mind.  Saint-Germain explores the subjects
of mind-reading, hypnosis, ESP and perception.  Two show times: 6 p.m. and
8 p.m.  FREE!

Saturday, Aug. 21
Forgot a few items?  Want a fun way to make new friends?  Want to ride a
yellow school bus to the Brainerd Wal-Mart shopping complex?  Then come to
Lot 4 near Boling/New Village apartments or meet in UTC Place Town Hall for
a free ride to Wal-Mart during the UTC Shopping Expedition.  The buses
start picking up passengers at noon, and the event ends at 5 p.m.

Later on, do not miss the Saturday Night Social: Meet the Greeks Dinner,
Campus Recreation Field Games and the Great Banana Split Race in the
Student Park area near the Library.  Sorority and fraternity members will
be on hand to talk about the recruitment and intake process of joining
their organizations.  Later the watch the spectacle of the Great Banana
Split Race and enjoy your own ice cream treat afterward.

Sunday, Aug. 22
Oak Street Roast--Do not miss this great, annual event!!  There will be
free grilled food, great live music from local bands and tons of student
organizations that would love to talk to you about joining them.  Starts at
5 p.m. near Hunter Hall.

Monday, Aug. 23
Happy First Day of Classes!  We want to help you welcome the new academic
year by offering a light snack and juice before you head to class (until
supplies run out) during the First Day Meet and Greet.  There will be three
locations: one near the UC deck/Grote Hall, one atop Cardiac Hill near
Pfeiffer Hall and one in the Fletcher Hall Courtyard.  Stop by for
directions or a campus map.

In the afternoon from 12-4 p.m., everyone is invited to join in the fun at
Student Park during the second-annual Wesley Welcome, sponsored by the
United Methodist Student Center on Douglas Street.

Tuesday, Aug. 24
Tuesday is ACE Day during Welcome Week, and this year the members of the
Association for Campus Entertainment (ACE) offer PHOTO MONTAGEa great
novelty where your picture is taken then your image is transformed into a
Photo Montage where thousands of tiny photos combine to make a photo of
you. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.--UC Atrium Lobby near Food Services.

Wednesday, Aug. 25
One of the secrets of success at UTC is getting involved in one or more
student organizationsduring the annual UTC Fall Fair, more than 60 great
student organizations and campus departments will have displays on Cardiac
Hill and on Vine Street to introduce them to you.  Plus Aramark, Student
Development and local restaurants will give out FREE food and drinks from
9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  (If it rains, the Fall Fair will be Thursday, Aug.
26.)

The UTC Campus Ministers invite you to the first ever Campus Ministry
Prayer Service in the University Center Tennessee Room starting at 12:30
p.m.  This brief prayer service is open to the entire UTC community.

Ladies, interested in possibly joining a sorority either during Panhellenic
Fall Recruitment Week (Aug. 30-Sept. 3) or later during the National
Pan-Hellenic sororitiesIntake processes?  During "Recruitment 101"at 8 p.m.
in the UC Auditorium, members of the Panhellenic Council Executive Board
and the 2004 Panhellenic Recruitment Counselors--known as Pi Chiswill
explain the process of becoming Greek at UTC.  You will also have the
opportunity to fill out a Recruitment application and pay $15 to
participate in Recruitment Week.  Being a member of the Greek community can
be a fun, life-changing event, so please come--plus there will be free
cookies, brownies and fruit punch after this Panhellenic Recruitment
Interest Meeting.

Thursday, Aug. 26
Today is UTC Blue & Gold Day so wear your Mocs gear, and you may randomly
win a movie ticket throughout the day from Student Development.  Also the
Housing Department is sponsoring a door-decorating contest with a great
prize to the door with the most Mocs Spirit.
Are you missing those special people in your life: girlfriend, boyfriend,
best friend, maybe even parents?  Being in a new environment can make these
feelings stronger and harder to handle.  Come learn how to cope with these
feelings and gain support from others who are going through the same
experience at 3 p.m. in to the UC Auditorium during Beating the Homesick
Bluessponsored by the Counseling and Career Planning Center.

Friday, Aug. 27
Ready to unwind and have fun after your first week of classes?  Join the
Student Alumni Council as they escort members from the UTC Place Town Hall
at 7:45 p.m. to nearby Miller Plaza Downtown for the Nightfall
Concert.  This evening Ryan Shupe & the Rubber Bandwill play a fantastic
blend of bluegrass, jazz, country, rock and folk music, plus UTC students
will be highlighted for attending and Scrappy will even make an appearance
during the concert.

Saturday, Aug. 28
Join the Black Student Alliance and the International Student Organization
from 5-8 pm at the UC Courtyard/Arch for the annual Pre-Labor Day
Picnic.  Grab some free dinner and enjoy this relaxing, laid-back cookout.
