I urge folks to take a look at Wayt Gibbs' "Obesity: An Overblown Epidemic?" published in the June 2005 Scientific American. In the midst of BUNCHES and BUNCHES of evidence about the health risks of obesity, and the ongoing discussion/debate about this fat and that fat and this diet and that diet and set-point theory and evolutionary programming and who-can-resist-twinkies, and blahblahblah, this article gives one new food for thought on this subject. And as I’ve got a chip on my shoulders about the extra junk in my trunk, this article sorta kinda made me feel better for about two minutes.

And I haven’t heard anyone in this “discussion” mention the importance of attending to your spirit, chakra, light, karma, little candle, brain balance, mental equilibrium, emotional wellbeing, belly-breathing-chambers-of-serenity, soul, or whatever. There’s some mighty interesting stats on how we’d better get off our collective self-focused, numbed-out, puffed-up, stressed-out, tight-assed, bored-out, materialized-up, jittery, empty-vesseled, fully-americanized, conscious, sentient selves and contemplate the.......well, I’m not sure what, but we’d better do that, too, while we’re getting on the old stick.
