Dear UTC,

The GEAR UP staff would like to give you a heads up about a special group
of students who will be visiting our campus this afternoon.  Two hundred
7th & 8th graders from Chattanooga Middle, Dalewood, Franklin, and Orchard
Knob will be at UTC today celebrating their participation in GEAR UP's fall
after-school session.  These middle school students will be escorted by our
UTC student instructors who have logged many hours this fall helping our
7th & 8th graders improve their reading and math skills, and both our
students and staff look forward to recognizing the great results this
program has delivered.

As part of the GEAR UP campus visit, our students will participate in a
scavenger hunt--only UTC security officers will be hit up for
signatures--which makes for a fun way for our kids to get a tour of this
campus.  You may see these student groups moving through your buildings (in
what will be an orderly but high-spirited manner), and we appreciate
anything you can do to give these students a sense of the warmth and
openness that is such a hallmark of this campus.  Today will be the first
time many of these students will have ever set foot onto a college campus,
and you can be certain the experience is one that will make eventual
college success a much more concrete possibility for each child who visits
UTC today.
