Dear Jazz Fans,

The third and final benefit performance for David Walters will be at
Melanie's on Brainerd Road, this Saturday, October 14, with two
seventy-five minute sets at 7:30 and 9:15. The cover (which gets you in
for both sets) is $10, which will go to the David Walters Fund. Dr.
Willie Mae Brooks has waived the room rental fee for this event.

Melanie's is at 3116 Brainerd Road, just east of the McCallie tunnel.
Parking is in the rear. Reservations can be made by calling 698-4433.

Joining Kathy and her jazz trio will be Clint Schmidt on saxophone,
giving the performances a very nice, new dimension. Rehearsal this week
was terrific and the show will be even better. Many of you may know
Clint from his teaching at UTC and his play with the Symphony. Also,
we'll have Dr. Tom McLaren sitting it on bass. He's a man who never met
a melody he couldn't support. Some other members of the local jazz
community may drop by for a tune or two.

Remember that Melanie's is a strictly cash economy, for the door as well
as for food (which will be snacks and not entrees) and drink. Also,
Melanie's has only a beer license, but you may bring wine. There will
be no corkage or other fee charged on the wine.

So, let the grape and the barley flow and let the jazz wrap you up. And
let's help a great jazz man meet some of the enormous costs that he
faces. You can do that and hear some of the world's sweetest music at
the same time.

Kathy and David

P.S. The David Walters Fund has received over $5,000 so far, from door
receipts at the first show and from donations from many of you. Please
help us make this last event a success. The need is as great as it ever
was. All of you who have contributed, by coming to the shows or making
donations (or both), have touched us with your generosity. We also hope
you've enjoyed the music, too.

P.P.S. Also, keep in mind that jazz venues in Chattanooga have all but
dried up. This may be your last chance for a while to hear Kathy and
these very talented musicians interpret this timeless music. You need
to be there because...

Jazz is the best, but live jazz is better.
