The El Paso Energy Fellowship at the Natural Resources Law Center,
University of Colorado, is awarded each spring to a scholar who is engaged
in research and writing on legal and political questions surrounding
natural resource issues. Dr. Bob Frodeman of UTC's Department of
Philosophy and Religion, who is this spring's recipient, is the first
recipient who comes from an area outside the legal profession.
The fellowship provides $25,000 in support. Dr. Frodeman was awarded the
fellowship to write on the topic of "mining's Legacy: Acid Mine Drainage
in the West," an account of the legal, scientific, and philosophic
questions surrounding abandoned mine lands. He is also using this time to
make progress on a manuscript, current titled "Geophilosophy."
We congratulate Dr. Frodeman on this award and the public esteem it brings
to his department and UTC.
