Dr. Randy Walker, Dr. Debbie Ingram and Ms. Susan McDonald recently received $279,799 for a second year of funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support the Health Careers Opportunity Program. The three-year program enhances the educational pipeline of students who enter the allied health fields.

To plan this program, Dr. Walker and his colleagues collaborated with the Hamilton County Department of Education, Chattanooga State Technical Community College, and six primary care facilities in the community. The project serves 150 talented, economically or educationally disadvantaged students, in middle through graduate school.

Students receive academic enrichment, mentoring, and college counseling and planning services. These services ensure that the students have valuable resources and support necessary for success in allied health degree programs.

Congratulations to Dr. Randy Walker, Dr. Ingram, Ms. McDonald, and Program Manager Mr. Carl Raus. The Health Careers Opportunity Program enables local students to meet their personal goals while providing a well-prepared allied health workforce for our region.
