Dear Colleagues,
The President-elect of the University of Tennessee will make his first
visit to Chattanooga on Thursday, June l7. I am very grateful that
President Gilley will make his first campus visit to UTC.
To give most of us a chance to start becoming aquainted, we have scheduled
a Reception for President and Mrs. Gilley (Nan) in the University Center in
the Chattanooga Rooms from around 4:00 - 5:30 p. m. The President and his
wife will ride back to Chattanooga after the U T Board of Trustees Meeting
on Wednesday and Thursday with Sue and me. Depending on traffic
conditions, we should arrive easily by 4:00.
I am pleased that the first Reception is not only in Chattanooga, but it is
for our faculty, staff, and students. Eventhough it is summer and many
will have already scheduled to be away, the opportunity for us is
significant. I recall the graciousness of the reception you gave Sue and
me. It meant a great deal to our beginning to work fully committed to UTC.
I know that we are capable of that same encouragement to Dr. and Mrs. Gilley.
After the Reception, the President and Mrs. Gilley will meet some
off-campus friends of the university in a small dinner party hosted by
Trustees Roger Dickson and Frank Kinser, U C Foundation Chair-elect Joe
Decosimo, and Senator Ward Crutchfield at the Walden Club.
I hope you will be able to particiapte in our Reception for the new
President. He will probably "say a few words" around 5:15 or so in
addition to the chance to say hello personally to each of us. Hope to see
you there.
Bill Stacy
