Dear Campus Community:

I find the flap about Tommie Brown's remarks interesting. I am also amazed
that no one has pointed out that Tommie Brown taught here at UT Chattanooga
for a number of years in our Social Work Department. I believe she knows
this campus quite well and that she has always supported our interests
well.

I guess the distinction between ignorance and stupidity is an important
element in the discussion. Certainly a lot is done to keep the poor
ignorant of the class system in this country. I agree with Tommie Brown
that this system could use some illumination or brightness.

Given the choice between ignorance and stupidity let's hope for ignorance.
We can cure that.

Thanks for making me think,

John
