I have received an anonymous letter stating that supervisors of work study students are having them run personal errands for them. The letter states that ..."Since you are over the work study program at UTC ...Please do something about this unacceptable behavior..."
The letter is signed "Concerned Faculty/Staff Member"
Of course work study students are not in our offices to perform personal tasks for us. They should be treated as any employee on campus can expect to be treated. This may be an isolated incident; the student may have volunteered to run an errand; the supervisor may be new and unaware of the true use of work study student assistance. I cannot bring about any change without the correct information.
I expect the individual who wrote this letter to come forward and tell me where any abuse of work study students was/is occurring. Anonymity makes the accusation they have made weak and suspect. Anything of this nature should be handled in an adult, professional manner rather than a childish, skulking way.
