The Upward Bound program, directed by Mr. Booker Scruggs, has
received $274,016 in continued funding for fiscal year 2002-03
from the U.S. Department of Education. Upward Bound works
with low-income and potential first-generation college
students from Howard, Brainerd, and Chattanooga High Schools to encourage
them to complete their secondary and post-secondary education.

Upward Bound provides students with academic assistance, educational and
career guidance, as well as cultural enrichment activities. Students who
take part in the Upward Bound program participate in special seminars
on college selection, career planning, and preparation for admissions tests.

Congratulations to Mr. Scruggs and the Upward Bound program for helping
at-risk students within the community.
