I must concur with Ms. Bridgeman. The level of vindictiveness in
Ms. Pugh's note is truly offensive, even frightening. I also would rather
not receive such venom by e-mail.
If Ms. Pugh has a problem with Mr. Brown, it should be handled
directly and personally, not in this public and essentially cowardly
manner. If she has not the courage to face Mr. Brown and state her
complaints, then she should remain silent. Her choice of this venue for so
blistering an attack is dishonorable. And before anyone accuses me of
following suit, I assure one and all that I would repeat these words
directly to Ms. Pugh were I to see her.
Secondly, if Ms. Pugh has a complaint of professional wrongdoing
against Mr. Brown, she should present that complaint, with supporting
evidence to the Chancellor or Faculty Senate so that it could be handled in
an appropriate manner.
The Raven is an excellent format for public discussion and debate
of issues affecting the entire University, but of late, and all too often,
it has served as a vehicle for venality, pettiness and deliberate
vindictiveness. Surely we can debate difficult issues and present various
viewpoints without such cruelty. We should not have to stoop so low to make
a point.
