MOCS BASKETBALL LEGENDS RETURN FOR CELEBRATION
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---A who's who of former University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga men's basketball players will return to campus Sunday for the
Legends Celebration honoring Mocs basketball greats of years past.
Scheduled to appear, among others, are Brandon Born (1991-95), Tim Brooks
(1991-93), Chad Copeland (1992-94), Stanley Lawrence (1979-83), Nick Morken
(1980-82), Gary Robb (1992-94), Russ Schoene (1980-82) and Willie White.
Former head coach Ron Shumate, who led the Mocs to the NCAA Division II
National Championship in 1977, will be on hand. Mack McCarthy, the
school's all-time winningest coach, has sent a greeting via video
presentation.
Representing the 1997 NCAA Sweet 16 team will be Marquis Collier, Isaac
Conner, Wes Moore and David Phillips.
The Legends will take part in a special luncheon at noon. The Legends
Celebration festivities begin at 2 p.m. at The McKenzie Arena. The program
will open with a special video presentation highlighting UTC's rich
basketball tradition. Following the video, the Legends will participate in
a three-point shooting contest and other competitive skill events.
At around 3:30 p.m., the 2001-02 edition of the Mocs basketball team, led
by head coach Henry Dickerson, will be introduced. The current squad will
end the day with a 40-minute scrimmage.
The Legends Celebration, sponsored by Coca-Cola, is free and open to the
public.
