Dr. Doug Kutz has received continued support for an important
grant to sustain undergraduate research at UTC. In collaboration
with colleagues in Chemistry and Biological and Environmental Sciences
-- including Greg Grant, Rob Mebane, Rardy Spratt, and Ann Stapleton --
Dr. Kutz will direct years two and three of a three-year grant totaling
$60,000 called, "Symbiosis: Undergraduate Science Research Program."

The grant provided by Merck/American Association for the Advancement of
Science is the first of its kind awarded to UTC. It will fund summer
research by biology and chemistry majors working in four interdisciplinary
teams. Each team will consist of a biology faculty member, a biology
student, and chemistry faculty member and a chemistry student.

Please join in congratulating Dr. Kutz and his colleagues for their
interest in student research and for securing an award that garners
national attention for UTC.
