Thanks Lee for accurately stating Dr. Brown's comments with putting a spin
on it. Perhaps some back ground on what Dr. Brown is trying to do can shed
some light on this comment. Dr. Brown is trying to convince our
legislatures to make scholarships available to students with lower GPAs as
well. Because Tennessee students score much lower on the ACT and SAT, Dr.
Brown maintains that the GPA of 3.0 would exclude most students in
Tennessee. Dr. Brown invited experts, those who draft the SAT and ACT
tests, to speak to the legislature so that more informed decisions can be
made. In addition, she is reviewing scholarship program form other states
to determine how Tennessee can best meet the needs of students.
