From: Andrea Green, Administrative Assistant, Asia Program
Subject: UTC Asian Studies Committee
Date: October 13, 2004

Lucien Ellington, William Harman, and Richard Rice are hosting a meeting with faculty who are interested in Asia on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 in the University Center 361 Fortwood Room from 2:00-4:00pm. They would like to
explore the possibility of organizing a UTC faculty Asian Studies committee. Possible functions of the committee could include:

* periodic meetings in which faculty, students, and outside speakers make presentations on various aspects of concern to those in the campus community interested in Asia.
* development of collaborative projects such as exchange programs and study tours that serve to promote better understanding of Asia within both the university and larger community.
* enhancement of educational opportunities in Asian Studies for UTC undergraduates and graduates.
* strategies for offering faculty development of opportunities for those on campus who would like to improve familiarity and expertise in matters relating to Asia.

You are invited to attend this focus group meeting on October 19 where your ideas about this possible endeavor will be solicited.
