TO: All Faculty

In light of recent tragedies in New York City and Washington, DC, a number
of UTC students may be called to activity duty with their military
units. I wish to apprise you of the options available to our students
called to active duty and ask that you inform your students of the
following options.

OPTION I:

On November 29, 1990, the Academic Standards Committee recommended and the
Faculty Council unanimously adopted the following resolution:
Any student called to active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States
may, with the permission of the instructor, be given an indefinite
incomplete. The incomplete may be made up at any time or a retroactive
withdrawal may be granted.

Should a student who has been called to active duty choose to be given an
indefinite incomplete, and you as instructor agree, please contact Sandy
Zitkus in the Records Office at 4416 or by e-mail so that the indefinite
"I" may be properly recorded on the academic record.

OPTION II:

Students who are called to active military duty also have the option to
withdraw from the University with a full refund of all maintenance fees and
out-of-state tuition fees regardless of when during the semester the
withdrawal occurs. In the event that the withdrawal occurs late in the
semester and the student's instructor deems that sufficient work has been
completed to warrant awarding a grade, credit shall be awarded for the
course. Refunds will be adjusted for courses in which credit is not awarded.

It is very important that students receiving educational benefits from the
Veteran's Administration contact their VA Certifying Official in the
Records Office, 124 Hooper Hall. The official will coordinate the
processing of appropriate paperwork with the University and inform the
Veteran's Administration of the change in educational benefits.

Any assistance you can give to these students will, I know, be
appreciated. Please feel free to contact Judy Fry or Sandy Zitkus in the
Records and Registration Office at 4416 or by e-mail if you have any questions.
