Friends and Colleagues

We will open the UTC Jones Observatory at 9:00 PM Wednesday Aug. 27. This is the night that it will be closest to Earth. It is unclear when Mars will be visible from the Observatory. You see, any almanac or software will tell when Mars comes up over the horizon. My concern is when Mars will be above the oak trees in the cemetary next door. However, we will be there and you are invited to join us. We are going to make the best of this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Assuming the weather is clear, I doubt that we will see Mars much before 10:00 PM. It may be closer to 11:00 PM.

Hope to see you there
