The Tennessee Higher Education Council has awarded Dr. Stephanie Bellar and
Dr. David Brodsky a $16,176 grant to fund a civics and government workshop
series. The workshops will teach Hamilton County middle school social
studies teachers how to use the case studies approach in their classrooms.
The case study instructional technique requires students to assess the
actions taken by decision-makers struggling to solve real life public
problems, allowing students to analyze complex issues and to think
critically.
Workshop sessions will be held five evenings between March 22 and April 19,
2000, followed by a daylong workshop prior to the start of the new school
year. Each of the twenty-five participants will receive one hour of
graduate-level credit when they complete the workshop series.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Bellar and Dr. Brodsky on their recent
award.
