Full-Time Faculty Colleagues:

If you're developing a new course, modifying an old one, working on a
research project, or developing an academic program, and the Lupton Library
lacks the resources you or your students need, now is your chance to help
strengthen the Lupton Library's collection.

Below are the guidelines and cover sheet for the 1999 Library Enhancement
Initiative. You will also receive these materials next week via campus
mail.  The deadline is noon on Wednesday, October 27.  Please call me at

PROPOSAL COVER SHEET
Please fill out, attach to your proposal, and forward 12 copies by noon on
October 27, 1999 to Marcia Noe, Department of English, #2703, 338E Holt
Hall.

Please list below all library materials you wish to purchase with this
grant.  For books, please include all pertinent bibliographical
information, including ISBN number and list price.  For videos, microfilm
or microfiche, please include ordering information and list price.  If you
need more room, please attach a separate sheet.  Please do not send book
catalogs, catalog pages, print-outs from Amazon.com or the like.  We need
specific ordering information now so that funded proposals can be forwarded
directly to the Lupton Library to be ordered immediately.

LIBRARY ENHANCEMENT INITIATIVE (page 2 of 2)

Proposal Guidelines (please note that your proposal will be returned to you
if it violates any of the guidelines below):

1.  The total dollar amount requested in the proposal should not exceed $500.00.

2.  The proposal must be received by noon on Wednesday, October 27, 1999.
If you're using campus mail, send the proposal to Marcia Noe, Department of
English #2703.  If you're delivering your proposal in person or by
messenger, bring it to Marcia Noe in 338E, Holt Hall.

3.  This initiative funds only books, videos, microfilm or microfiche.
We cannot fund proposals to purchase subscriptions, licenses or other
multi-year obligations; textbooks, workbooks, or other consumables, or
multiple copies of titles.

4.  Please check to make certain that the Lupton Library does not already
own the resources you're requesting.

5.  Please provide an itemized list of requested resources, including
prices, ISBN numbers (if requesting books), and ordering information (if
requesting videos,microfilm, or microfiche)  Do not send catalogs, catalog
pages, print-outs from Amazon.com or the like.

6.  Please send 12 copies of your cover sheet and proposal.

7.  The proposal package should comprise the completed cover sheet and a
typewritten, double-spaced two-page (maximum) narrative that provides a
rational for the proposal and addresses specifically but concisely as many
of the following questions as are pertinent to your particular case:

a.  What is the relationship between the materials you wish the
     Library to purchase and the program, course or research for
     which they are intended?

b.  How essential are these materials to your achieving the goals of
     the program, course or research for which they are intended?

c.  How will you use these materials in the program, course, or
     research for which they are intended?

d.  How will these materials strengthen the Lupton Library's
     collection?

e.  If materials are primarily for a program or course: Approximately how
     many students per year will benefit from these materials?
    Approximately how frequently is this course taught?
